Wheelchair ramp cost estimator

Enter your rise, material, handrails and installation type to get a planning cost range for a wheelchair ramp, itemized by ramp run, railing and labour, built from the published US cost ranges in our cost guide.

This is a planning estimate, not a quote or financial advice. Prices vary by region, site and supplier, get at least two local quotes before committing.

Your project

Rise to cover

Measure from the lower surface to the top landing, for example, ground level to the top of the porch. Do not count steps.

Material

Aluminum is the most DIY-friendly; wood is doable for experienced builders; concrete is rarely a DIY project. Compare materials.

Handrails

ADA requires handrails when a run rises more than 6 in (§405.8), on both sides where provided (§505.2). The selection is priced for wood, steel and concrete. Modular and prefabricated aluminum packages include handrails.

Installation

For modular aluminum the published installed band already includes installation; for wood, steel and concrete the published labour rate ($50–$120 per linear ft) is added.

Your planning estimate

24 in rise at 1:12 needs a 24 ft ramp run with 2 landings. Estimated planning cost: $3,600–$6,000 (installer per-foot pricing) or $2,500–$3,500 (published package pricing, 24 in rise). Handrails included.

For aluminum, both published methods are shown side by side, installer per-foot pricing and package pricing by rise. They price the same ramp from different sources: do not add them together. Planning estimate, not a quote. Published ranges differ by source, region and year. Landings are platforms (60 in min, 60 × 60 in at direction changes) and are not quoted separately by the published guides: ask each contractor to itemize them. A long or complex layout with turns can exceed these ranges.

How this estimate works

Length first. At the ADA maximum slope of 1:12, every inch of rise needs a foot of ramp, a 24 in rise needs a 24 ft run before landings. A gentler slope needs a longer, more expensive ramp.

Rates. The ramp run is priced with the published per-linear-foot bands below. For aluminum, handrails and installation are included in the published bands, so the estimate shows two sourced methods side by side, installer per-foot pricing and the published package totals by rise, and never adds them together. For wood, steel and concrete, handrails (+$20–$50 per linear ft, per side) and professional installation (+$50–$120 per linear ft) are added to the per-foot band.
